Purpose, Power & Proclamation

Posted by spdar on September 7, 2009

This What is our MAIN THING?

God gave Pharaoh a simple summary of His purpose and his main objective in Exodus 9:16for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth

I look at the purpose of the church and us as individuals in light of this verse. What is it ultimately that we have been called to? What is the thing above all else that we have to fix our eyes on. We should then be measuring all our individual and corporate activities, plans, hopes and dreams against that vision. Knowing our purpose and vision helps us determine where we should be putting out time and resources, how we should be redistributing resources in order that we might better serve the purpose of God.

What Does a Radical Disciple Look Like ?

Posted by spdar on August 17, 2009

This download looks at, and compares, the life an experience of Jesus disciples whilst with Jesus to after he had ascended and the Holy Spirit had come. What a difference the Holy Spirit makes! Unfocused observing rabble to organized, purposeful miracle workers and world missionaries. I poses the question who are we? Are we like the pre-Pentecost disciples who love Jesus, the follow Jesus, who love the Gospels, who have received forgiveness, salvation and everlasting life BUT are not operating like the disciples in the book of acts with boldness and with demonstrations of the kingdom!

Moving from Holy Spirit Experience to Holy Spirit Power!

Posted by spdar on July 20, 2009

Unlocking the POWER of GOD

So what happened from Jesus receiving the Holy Spirit, from him having a visible manifestation if the Holy Spirit (For him it was a dove landing on him, could have been gold dust, feathers, shaking, falling over, but for Him is was a Dove) and moving on from that EXPERIANCE of the HOLY SPIRIT to moving and operating IN THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

What can we learn? What happened between the experience and the PURPOSE & POWER?

Anointing for Purpose

First of all let me say that the Holy Spirit came on him for purpose.

Affirmation

It was for affirmation “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased[1]”, although this was not the primary reason because we know that Jesus already knew who he was at the tender age of 12 when he said to his parents when he went missing and was found in the temple “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house[2]”.

Guidance

The account says that Jesus was “Led by the Spirit[3]” suggesting that as the Holy Spirit came on him that God spoke to him, gave him council, moved him into something new, or into the next season of his life and ministry.

Readiness for Temptation and Hardship

This I would suggest is the penultimate key here. As we pray for the presence of God to come, to presence himself with us by the Holy Spirit, as we ask him to come in power we better be ready for what comes next.

For Jesus it was 40 days in the wilderness being tempted by the Devil himself.

When the Manifest Presence of God comes by the Holy Spirit demons will flee just as they did after when Jesus pitched up. When we call for the power of God to come we need to be prepared for a testing to come, for temptation to come. When it does we need to be ready! We need to be as Jesus was well fed, not physically, but spiritually. We need to be immersed in the word of God so as temptation comes we can stand firm of the truth of Scripture as Jesus did as he stood firm against the Devil. We need to be continually repentant, quickly confessing sin and humbly receiving correction from those in authority over us.

Let us receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit, not for experience in that moment sake, but in readiness for the times to come.

Anointed Me Too …..

Jesus himself explained why he received the baptism of the Spirit. He clearly explained that when the manifest presence of God came on him, when he visibly experienced the anointing of the Holy Spirit that is was for a clear reason.

Let us read the reason together from Scripture.

(Luke 4:18-19 ESV)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

The Spirit of the Lord is upon be because he has anointed me to …

There it is right here he is going to tell us why the was anointed, what what the purpose of experiencing the manifest presence of God.

It was to:

  • Proclaim the Good News
  • Set Captives Free
  • Heal the Sick
  • Cast out Demons
  • Preach Gods Promises

That was the reason for the baptism of the spirit, that was the purpose of the manifestation of the Spirit upon him … and the same is true for us

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

(John 20:21 ESV)

Moving from Experiences to Power

Folks we need to get hold of this. Sure there is an element of receiving the Holy Spirit manifestations for personal affirmation, but that is a by product of the Holy Spirit coming upon us. His purpose is to anoint us to fulfil Gods mission for his church. That through us his manifold wisdom may be made known[4]. That through us the sick will be healed, that people set free, demons cast out and declaring that now it the day of salvation!

Gold dust, feathers, gems, falling about and all this great stuff that happens when the Holy Spirit is present is an empowering for us to do the things that Jesus did, greater things, in the places he did them. Jesus was anointed to preach to the poor, not in churches, but on the streets[5]. Jesus was preaching the good news, not in synagogues but in the work place[6]. He was healing the sick not at meetings but in people homes[7] and places were the sick gathered[8].

Let us not fall into seeking these signs and wonders for simply self affirmation. I have heard conversations like “Have you had gold dust yet?” whilst I understand the excitement, especially when it happens to you, we must be very careful that we don’t end up seeking signs for the sake of the signs but for the empowerment.

Jesus asked “Why does this generation seek a sign?[9]” and warned us that “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given[10]” We must ensure that we are pursuing God and his glory not our own affirmation.

So for some of you/us there are not signs, no gold dust, no shaking, no obvious manifestations and that is just fine … it is Christ in you that is the hope of glory[11] … not manifestations of the Spirit! It is the fruit that is important, not how the tree is planted!

The Holy Spirit has anointed me to …    FOR PURPOSE !

The Radical Christian Church

Posted by spdar on November 24, 2008

The results of the Supernatural Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the early pasts of Acts is very exciting and in there we see how these encounters shaped the early church. Today we are seeing healing in our Sunday meetings and experiencing the Holy Spirit at work which leads me to ask “How is this manifestation of the Holy spirit that we are currently experiencing affecting our lives”?

Signs have a purpose. They are not and end in themselves

When Heaven Invades Earth – (Johnson, When Heaven Invades Earth, 2003)

As I investigate the out pouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1 & 2 and again in Acts 3 & 4 I see Luke explaining that after the out pouring we see the gospel preached, people saved and added to the church and then he gives us an insight to how the church then looks as a result. I see their radical attitudes, actions, trust & sacrifice expressed in generosity to one another and there being no needy person among them.

I think that this is a model we, as a Radical Spirit Filled Community, should be adopting today!

HEALING! Stories of people in HORSHAM being Healed this week

Posted by spdar on November 10, 2008

It was so exciting this week at church as people were healed! I was preaching at my Church, Kings Church Horsham, this week and during the worship there were several word of knowledge about healing. Even some primary school kids from our kids work came into the adult meeting to speak out about what God had shown them and to pray for the sick. I was really moved by what God was doing and so as I began to speak I felt I should ask anyone who was sick to stand so as a church we could pray for them.

This led into a great opportunity to talk on Acts Chapter 3 & 4 as this was the same model as we were experiencing right there in our church meeting!.

You can LISTEN to the sermon here, or you can download it for free to listen on your iPod here.

Following the Sermon a lady testified to being healed of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome !

Any one for Miracles? – Response to Comments

Posted by spdar on November 3, 2008

Here is a response to the comments left on my previous post “Any one for Miracles?”

Blog Comment

Jesus was not God, he had the holy spirit of God; was born as a miracle of Virgin Mary and was the God’s “word” and prophet on earth. Jesus says in the Bible :”Do not pray to me, but to the “Father” (God). If Jesus himself was the God, he would say, “Pray to me!”

As for the miracles, we live in a universum of miracles.

With or without praying, God watches us, helps us, punishes us, as needed. We are not alone.

Best wishes for lots of miracles to you !

My Reply

Well there is an opener for you “Jesus was not God”. What can we deduce from that? Are you saying that he was not God, but now is? I’m guessing not.

Jesus was God

There is so much evidence in the bible that Jesus was God.

Jesus Makes Himself Equal to God

John 5:18 (English Standard Version)
This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Jesus Makes Himself Equal to God

John 8:58 (English Standard Version)
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

This is particularly interesting in that by Jesus using the phrase “I am”, which is clearly grammatically incorrect, is equating himself with God (Yahweh). This would have been easily
recognisable by his Jewish listeners as the part of their scriptures (Our Old Testament) God tells them his name

Exodus 3:14 (English Standard Version)
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

There is no doubt here that Jesus was equating himself with Yahweh the God of the Jews that is with God himself

Jesus Says He & God are One!

John 10:30 (English Standard Version)
I (Jesus) and the Father are one.”

The Apostle Paul Confirms This

Colossians 2:9 (English Standard Version)
For) in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,

I think this is pretty conclusive! There are other scriptures too!

Jesus Had the Holy Spirit of God

It seems that we agree that Jesus had the Holy Spirit of God as I think that the bible clearly states that.

Luke 3:22 (English Standard Version)
and the Holy Spirit descended on him [Jesus] in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Luke 4:1 (English Standard Version)
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness

Jesus Was born as a Miracle of Virgin Mary

No argument there!

Matthew 1:18 (English Standard Version)
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
Luke 1:35 (English Standard Version)
And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.

Jesus was the God’s “word”

Still agreeing with you here as the bible agrees with you. Below we read that “the Word” became flesh and dwelt among us. That is the word became Jesus as a Man

John 1:14-18 (English Standard Version)
14And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15( John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

However, I think that whilst we are in agreement that Jesus was God’s “Word” this statement contradicts the opening statement that “Jesus was not God” as the opening verse of same chapter clearly states that this “word of God” who you agree was Jesus is also God, not a prophet of God, but God himself.

John 1:1 (English Standard Version)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Clearly if you believe that Jesus was “the word” of God then you must accept that he WAS GOD!

Jesus Said “Do Not Pray to Me”

T o simply state “Jesus says in the Bible :’Do not pray to me, but to the ‘Father’ (God). If Jesus himself was the God, he would say, ‘Pray to me!’” and not provide any references to support
your claim is not all that fair. However, I guess you are refereeing to when the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray and he answers

Matthew 6:9 (English Standard Version)

Pray then like this
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be
your name

Agreed here was directing the disciples to pray to the father (God). However this is not the only passage in the Gospels that explain prayer. In John 14:1-14 we read that Jesus declares that he is the only way to God (John 14:6) and that he will soon go to be with the father. He then explains that when he has gone to be with the father that if we ask him for anything he will do it.

John 14:13-14 (English Standard Version)
13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

This can only refer to prayer as he is talking about when he has gone to be with the Father and is no longer with the disciples in body.

As for the miracles, we live in a universum of miracles

Not sure how to respond to this as “Universum” is not even a word according to dictionary.com and a search of Google gives a Branding company or an Australian Melodic
Death Metal band which in itself sounds like an oxymoron if ever there was one! Anyway, to say we live in a world of miracles then I guess at one level we do. The fact that the earth keeps spinning; that the universe continues at all is a miracle in my book. So God thus sustains everything and is performing miracles constantly. I was however referring to specific miracles following prayer to
Yahweh of the bible the great God above all gods. The one true god. I am referring to praying for the sick and seeing them healed. Now Jesus referred to this in Mark 16:18 that various things will accompany those that believe in him (Jesus) and specifically cites healing. There are numerous other examples of Jesus healing the sick, and many others throughout the New Testament. Jesus disciples after being empowered by the Holy Spirit healed the sick in Acts. So I am fully expectant that as I continue to pray and pursue opportunities to pray for the sick that I will see people healed! Miracles in my hand!

Any one for Miracles ?

Posted by spdar on November 1, 2008

I believe in seeing miracles today! Do you ?

As I read my bible I see things that amaze me. I read that Jesus was fully God, and fully man. As a man he only had access to God in the same way we do. Through the Holy Spirit. Yet he said that we would do GREATER things than he did! Wow … I have access to that same Holy Spirit and should expect to see miracles in my own hands the same way the disciples did at the feeding of the 5000.

Miracles, Healing & the Supernatural

Posted by spdar on October 13, 2008

If you’re not a reader then why not download this as a FREE MP3 for your iPod, or listen on line for free here.

I have, over recent weeks been very excited by an increase in people becoming Christians in our church. We are regularly seeing healing and people testifying to the power of God operating in their lives. I recently spoke on this explaining to people that we can expect God to move in power and encouraged them to pray so we might see more and more of the Holy Spirit demonstrating the Power of God in Signs and Wonders.

If you want to listen there is a FREE MP3 for your iPod, or you can listen on line for free here.
